Eddy R. Smith joins Kennerly Montgomery

Kennerly Montgomery is happy to announce that Eddy R. Smith, Esq. is joining the Firm.

Eddy has counseled individuals, families and organizations since 1998, practicing law for 20 years as a principal of the Knoxville law firm Holbrook Peterson Smith and working two years in Merrill Lynch Private Wealth. His practice is devoted to estate and trust planning; asset protection; business planning and succession; charitable planning; taxation; representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in estate and trust administration, interpretation and litigation; and nonprofit organizations. He has argued three reported Tennessee Court of Appeals cases involving mattes of first impression, and serves as an expert witness on trust and estate matters.

Eddy is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a Certified Exit Planning Advisor to business owners, a member of the Knoxville and Tennessee bar associations, and a member of the Tennessee Probate Study Group, a panel responsible for reviewing and drafting proposed state laws regarding estates, trusts, property, and inheritance, including related tax laws. He served as Chair of the TBA Estate Planning and Probate Section and President of the Knoxville Estate Planning Council. Eddy wrote a regular trusts and estates column in the Tennessee Bar Journal called “Where There’s A Will” and has been published in several bar journals around the country.

Eddy served two years on U.S. Army active duty (enlisted) and worked five years as a full-time college minister. He and wife, Wendy, married in 1988 and have three adult children.
