Civil Litigation and Appeals

ELIZABETH PETERSON has joined the Firm’s Civil Litigation and Appeals practice group after spending two years as a law clerk for the Honorable Clifton L. Corker, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Tennessee. She has been inducted into the Order of the Coif, the Order of Barristers, and is a member of the Hamilton Burnett American Inns of Court and the Knoxville Bar Association.

Elizabeth has experience in criminal defense, having worked as an extern with the Knox County Public Defender’s office and the Federal Defender for the Eastern District of Tennessee’s office. She is also interested in the following practice areas: Employment Law, Church and Non-Profit Law, Estate Planning, Wills, Trusts, and Probate, and Criminal Defense and Appeals.

Education

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law with High Honors in 2020, where she completed a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. She also holds a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from Washington University in St. Louis and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she wrote a dissertation on dismantling racism in a mixed-race congregation. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth became an ordained minister for the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2004. She enjoys playing guitar, hiking, traveling, and reading works by authors from around the world. She is a classically trained mezzo-soprano and has sung with the Knoxville Opera and has been a featured solo performer at the Tennessee Theater’s Mighty Musical Monday concerts. She lives in East Knoxville with her husband George, her two teenage children, Leah and Zachary, two dogs, and a cat.
