Alexander M. Taylor law practice concentrates on estate planning, probate, elder law, and general tax issues. Alex is a Board member of the National Association of Estate Planning Attorneys and a past President of the Knoxville Estate Planning Council. Alex is an Estate Planning Law Specialist certified by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.
U.S. News & World Report has named Alex in The Best Lawyers in America© in the practice areas of Tax Law and Trusts and Estates for 2024 and 2025, and Elder Law in 2025.
Cityview Magazine recognized Alex as a Top Attorney of Knoxville for Elder Law in both 2018 and 2020-2024. He was also recognized in Estate Planning/Trusts, Income Tax/IRS Resolutions, Taxation, and Wills/Probate (also 2024) for 2021-2023, as well as Mediation/Arbitration in 2021.
Alex was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1970. He is also a member of the Knoxville Bar Association (KBA) and Tennessee Bar Association (TBA). He is a member of both the Estate Planning and Elder Law sections of the TBA.
Alex was admitted to the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee all in 1974.
He was a tax lawyer with the Chief Counsel’s Office for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C., from 1970 to 1974.
Alex is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1970. He also received his L.L.M. in Taxation from George Washington University in 1974.
