Jack M. Tallent, II has concentrated his practice in civil litigation in State and Federal courts and assisted clients with corporate and commercial transactions. He has been called upon by clients to handle diverse cases arising from business and commercial disputesinsurance coverage and defense, architect and engineer professional liability, construction claims, premises liability, products liability, arbitration and mediation, and employment law issues. Mr. Tallent's additional areas of practice include advice to clients on contract and corporate matters, and he has been a speaker at seminars on construction issues and employment law.

In 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2025, Jack was named by U.S. News and World Report as LAWYER OF THE YEAR in the practice area of Litigation - Construction Law.

U.S. News & World Report has named Jack in The Best Lawyers in America(C) in the practice area of Construction Law every year since 2008 and in the practice area of Litigation - Construction every year since 2011, including 2025. In 2022, he also was recognized in the area of Commercial Litigation for the first time, and again 2024 and 2025. In 2024, he also received a new recognition in Litigation - Land Use and Zoning, which continued again in 2025.

About Jack

Jack was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1975. In 1976, he was admitted to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee and the Western District of Tennessee in 2007. He was also admitted to the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2005.

Mr. Tallent is a member of the Knoxville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, and the American Inns of Court. He is a member of various sections and committees in these organizations including the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, Litigation Section and the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section, both of the American Bar Association. He has served as a director of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel from 2006 through 2009.

Education

Mr. Tallent attended the University of Tennessee (B.S., 1972) and the University of Tennessee College of Law (J.D., 1975).
