Over the last thirty years, James N. Gore, Jr. , has built a reputation as a knowledgeable, personable and responsive counselor to his clients. He focuses his practice on commercial and residential landlord-tenant law representing landlords and property management companies in a wide variety of matters including lease drafting, resolving landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, collections of past due rent and discrimination disputes. He has worked with both public and private landlords. He has handled numerous Fair Housing claims before the Tennessee Human Rights Commission and HUD.
Jim has spoken to numerous organizations on issues related to landlord-tenant law.
Jim has been named to America's Best Lawyers by U.S. News and World Report in 2018 and again in 2019-2025 in the area of Litigation - Insurance Law, as well as in Insurance Law in 2024 and 2025. In 2025, Jim was also recognized in Community Association Law.
Jim has also handled workers’ compensation matters for employers and workers’ compensation carriers since he joined the firm in 1987. He is a passionate advocate who works closely with his clients to achieve favorable claim resolutions. He has experience at all levels of workers’ compensation litigation and is no stranger to the courtroom. Jim is well known for his employment law knowledge and experience. He routinely advises employers on a wide variety of issues including FMLA, ADA and contract disputes. His objective is always to provide his clients with solutions that are tailored to meet their budgets and goals.
Cityview Magazine has recognized Jim as a Top Attorney of Knoxville in the practice areas of Insurance Law and Worker's Compensation - Defense in 2021-2024. In 2023 and 2024, he was also recognized in the areas of Collections/Foreclosures and Personal Injury-Auto Accident-Defense. He was also recognized in Labor & Employment Law - Employer in 2021-2023.
In addition to his landlord-tenant and workman's compensation practice, Jim also uses his advocacy skills to assist clients in a variety of civil litigation matters. Whether it is a construction dispute, business-related tort issue, contract issue or products liability matter, Jim is well equipped to navigate complex issues. His courtroom experience and affable demeanor have enabled him to be successful before juries in multiple jury trials and has served him well in non-jury trials, mediations, and arbitration hearings.
Jim was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1987. He is also a member of the Knoxville Bar Association ("KBA") and Tennessee Bar Association ("TBA"). He is a member in the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute.
Jim was admitted to the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee and the U.S. Sixth Court of Appeals in 1988, as well as the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee in 2010.
Jim is active in the Knoxville community having coached and volunteered for various youth sports programs including the West Valley Middle School baseball team, and the Bearden High School Dugout Club. He enjoys golf, the Tennessee Volunteers, and rarely misses watching the Atlanta Braves.
Jim received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University in 1984. Three years later he received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee School of Law in 1987.
